Analysis of a Collection: Christian Dior S/S 2020 (RTW)

The ask: To analyze a fashion collection featured on the runway taking into account symbolism, imagery, and fashion history.

Background

When deciding upon a collection to select for analysis, I chose Christian Dior’s Spring/Summer 2020 Ready to Wear line. The collection, designed by Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, was created as an homage to Christian Dior’s younger sister, Catherine.

The show was showcased at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France in September of 2019.

Heavily inspired by Dior’s passion for gardening, Chiuri incorporates natural fabrics and garden accessories in each look while embracing femininity and environmentalism.

The Analysis

Research for the analysis was completed through fashion news sources such as Vogue, fashion textbooks such as The History of Fashion, and course lectures.
